The Academy International School is a dynamic centre of education. We are constantly evolving in response to the changing necessities of the students and reflecting the global environment. We follow an holistic approach to education. Our strong belief in education in the broadest sense permeates all our teaching and learning. While providing the students with a very high form of academia we also encourage the students in their development of the necessary life skills to become responsible, compassionate and successful citizens of the world.
At The Academy International School we have combined the beauty of our natural surroundings in the heart of the Mallorcan countryside with modern facilities and up to date resources to create an environment which is extremely conducive to learning.
The school was opened in 1985 with 25 children and two teachers. It originally started up as a Summer School which, due to its success, carried on as a school in September 1985.
Now there are 310 students ranging in age from 2 to 16. The students follow the British National Curriculum which incorporates a wide spectrum of subjects and topics and pupils can continue their education up to IGCSE examination level.
The main language of instruction is English. Spanish lessons begin in Reception 1 and Catalan lessons commence in Year 2. The students in Key Stage 2 can choose to study another modern foreign language, German or French.
The majority of the students are Spanish, British or German. However, there are students from each of the continents. This international representation gives the students a global perspective and allows for the promotion of a rich cultural experience. Many activities throughout the school year provide the children with the opportunity to share and learn from each other in an environment that promotes learning as a partnership between teachers, parents, children and the community as a whole.
The teaching staff is 90% British and the remaining teachers represent other English speaking countries or form the Department of Modern Foreign Languages.
The school is inspected regularly both by British Inspectors and Inspectors from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
We have also been awarded the quality certificate ISO 9001 and annual inspections recognize the consistently high quality of our service in education.
Mission
Central to our mission is our philosophy to share the joy of learning inspired by high quality teaching. Our mission is to provide a holistic education encompassing academic, social and emotional aspects of learning. Our surroundings and diverse student body help promote and strengthen our mission to have maximum respect for people, ideas, the environment and the things around us.
