From our modest beginnings in 2007, ISCAT has grown steadily to become one of the leading schools in the area, with over 220 students enrolled at our purpose-built site in the beautiful spa town of La Garriga, just 30 minutes from Barcelona centre.
ISCAT’s distinctive features include a) It’s size (one-form entry and maximum 18 students per class). Our recognition as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School (we received our much-treasured bronze award in February 2018 and are now heading for silver), our Emotional Education programme and our commitment to Forest School pedagogy.
Our entire team is fully committed to offering the maximum number of opportunities to each and every one of our students and wholeheartedly embraces our core values:
1) allowing each student to feel valued for what he or she can offer the group, regardless of whether this be in the academic, artistic or social arena.
2) Using the programme of Emotional Education to build self-esteem, develop sound decision-making abilities in our students and have this inform behaviour and attitudes in all aspects of life.
3) Using the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child to underpin the entire programme of learning in Primary, carrying this in Secondary through the subject of Citizenship, the objective being to have students recognise that with every right goes a responsibility and that in keeping this in tandem we create a healthy and balanced society.
In honouring the first of these values, we are proud to consider ourselves an inclusive school, creating paths to higher education for all profiles of learner through the broad range of subjects, both academic and artistic, offered at IGCSE and A Level. Our accreditation by UNEDassis guarantees our local students access to national universities via this path, while our international cohort, which comprises more than 40% of the total enrolment of our school, can easily access universities worldwide.
Secondly, in teaching Emotional Education as a discrete subject, and creating a programme therein which promotes self-esteem, we are active in encouraging our students to grow with a strong sense of personal purpose, drawing on values developed from within in order to inform their decisions and choices not only on a day-to-day basis, but as they go through life.
Thirdly, our UNICEF Rights Respecting School Project provides the perfect vehicle to unite both of these essential values. In providing the basis for all which needs to be taught and learnt in Primary, it allows us to strive for that perfect balance between academic rigour and emotional support, offering a truly personalised programme. Entering an environment each day which allows each individual to feel valued and respected for what he or she can personally give, opens the mind fully to the learning process and encourages each one to give of their best.
Our staffing policy reflects the above. All our teachers share and bring evidence of the philosophy and core values of our school. All have trained in the UK and have ample experience of teaching the National Curriculum, the majority having received an ‘outstanding’ qualification in OFSTED evaluation.
ISCAT is fully accredited by both Cambridge and EdExcel exam boards and we welcome applications from students of all nationalities who are seeking a British, values-based education.
