Our student body is made up of many different nationalities; the majority of whom are English speakers. Therefore we are able to maintain a very high standard of English. The National curriculum forms the basis of our syllabus from Years 1 to 6. The school has recently been authorised by the Ministry of Education to accept Spanish children (BOE 123 No 23597,23/V/97).
Numont strives to bring out the best in boys and girls of varying levels of ability. The pupil – teacher ratio is 10:1, which ensures that each child is able to receive the individual attention that he or she needs. The emphasis is en building confidence and self-esteem through a healthy , positive attitude towards learning.
The school follows the British National Curriculum preparing pupils for examinations at key stages 1 & 2 There is special emphasis on English, Maths and Science. History and Geography are adapted to meet the international needs of our students. Spanish language and culture are taught daily from Year1 by native teachers. IT is introduced from Reception using programmes related to the National Curriculum. The older students work with technology using both Email and Internet.
Music and movement is an important part of the curriculum in the Junior School, and the daily class helps to develop language and motor skills. Older pupils study instruments, composers and the rudiments of music. At the end of the academic year all pupils take part in a theatrical production enjoyed by young and old alike.
There are additional opportunities for public speaking and performing in the weekly assemblies. Each class prepares an assembly based on class work to which parents are welcome to attend.
We feel that participation in sports is vital for a child’s overall development and there is a comprehensive physical education programme and an annual sport’s day , as well as competitions with other schools. Extra curricular activities include: Art, Dance, French, IT, Piano, Swimming & Homework Club.
