Caxton College is an independent British co-educational day school for pupils between the ages of 1 to 18 years. It was founded in 1987 thanks to the initiative of a Valencian family. The school currently has over 1,600 students on roll from over forty nationalities and is accredited by both the English and Spanish education authorities. All lessons are delivered in English throughout the school according to the British National Curriculum alongside the compulsory subjects in the Spanish education system and are taught by highly professional, experienced British and Spanish trained staff.
The school is purpose built and stands in 26,000 m2 in the village of Puçol, just 20 km north of Valencia on the east coast of Spain. It is located halfway between the mountains and the sea, with a mild Mediterranean climate and extraordinary light. It is an open, multicultural school, where the coexistence of British and Spanish cultures, together with those of other countries, creates a community without barriers where students from different continents come together creating an understanding and tolerant atmosphere that will prepare them for the future.
The students take End of Primary assessments and then go on to take IGCSEs at the age of 16. In the Sixth Form, from the ages of 16 to 18, students prepare for AS and A Level exams as well as Spanish University entrance exams. Thanks to the academic results that our students achieve each year, they gain admission to nationally and internationally renowned universities. Caxton College heads the educational ranking lists in the Valencian Community, as year after year we are rated as one of the five best schools in the province.
In its second BSO inspection which was carried out in 2020 by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), under the Department for Education of the United Kingdom, Caxton College was again awarded the highest possible rating of excellent in all areas. The BSO accreditation is the most important international assurance of quality that a British school can hold worldwide and it demonstrates that not only is the British character of our school evident in all areas (ethos, curriculum, teaching and care for pupils and pupils’ achievements) but that we have reached a standard similar to that of a UK independent school with the same rating.
As an institution aware of our role at a global level, we have worked to demonstrate our commitment to society and the environment for many years. As an educational centre, we teach a curriculum in which the student’s personal development is an intrinsic part. Our aim is for our students to develop the altruistic attitude that is essential for achieving a sustainable society. Through educational classroom activities, our pupils assimilate the values and virtues that they will need to become citizens who are respectful of our planet.
The school’s magnificent facilities include a large gymnasium (500 m2), two football 7 artificial turf pitches, tennis and paddle courts, basketball and volleyball courts, an athletics track, one outdoor and one indoor 25m swimming pool, fitness rooms, science laboratories, a library with over 30,000 print and digital educational and leisure resources, IT laboratories, a robotics laboratory, art rooms, music rooms and more.
Pupils can choose from a wide range of extracurricular activities that take place both during the school day and after it that are taught by qualified coaches and instructors. Some of the activities available to students include karate, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming, ballet, French, Chinese, German, chess, music and many others.
Other services include: a bus service covering a wide area of Valencia and the southern part of Castellón; three dining rooms offering three course lunches prepared on site; and medical assistance provided by a full time qualified nurse.
The school year is divided into three terms. School starts at the beginning of September and finishes at the end of June. The school hours are from 9:15am to 4:30pm.
Caxton College has summer camps (language and sport) for children and adolescents of all ages during the month of July. Saturday English Courses are also offered for children and adults from October to June.
