King’s College, British School of Alicante
The British School of Alicante was founded in 2001 by a parents’ cooperative, although it is now part of King’s Group. Situated 5 minutes from the centre of Alicante city, it occupies a specially designed, and recently extended building overlooking the Mediterranean.
Our prime motivation is to provide an environment of excellence and quality. Our students are given access to the highest level academic tuition, and are provided with the opportunity to develop their personal and social skills to prepare them to take their place in society as educated, thoughtful and responsible citizens.
The school facilities include modern classrooms, library, Music room, Science laboratories, Art room, ICT suite, 2 gymnasiums and sports pitches as well as several play areas.
The UK staff have British teaching qualifications, and there are native Spanish teachers to teach Spanish language, History and Geography, as well as Valencian.
All students follow the English National Curriculum. When they are in Year 10 (14 years old) they begin a two year course of preparation for Cambridge International GCSEs. In Year 12 we offer a range of GCE A Level courses which prepare students for university entrance in both the UK and Spain.
Class sizes are an average of 25. The nationality breakdown of our students is approximately 70% Spanish, 20% British and 10% other nationalities.
The academic year starts in the second week of September, and finishes in mid-late June. The school day starts with registration at 9.00 am, the first class is at 9.10 am, and lessons finish at 4.25 pm. There is a wide choice of after school activities which run from 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm.
