Benidorm 2017

CONFERENCES

The National Association of British Schools in Spain held its 39th Annual Conference in Benidorm on 2-5 March 2017 under the theme of “Inspiring Children, Creating Futures”. UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the British Embassy will once again support NABSS in the organisation of the exhibition. As ever, the conference was held over 4 days starting with a Gala dinner on the Thursday evening.

The current NABSS president, Adrian Massam, opened the conference at the Gala dinner, and welcomed members and all those present. His Excellency Simon Manley CGM, British Ambassador to Spain, and guest speaker Paul McGee also gave speeches.

The following day, was dedicated to heads and owners of schools, including the opening ceremony and tour of the Education Village followed by presentations from key speakers. Thereafter, there were an interesting programme of professional development for senior leaders and teachers, ensuring that they were well informed and kept up-to-date with the latest developments, reforms and trends in education. At the same time, more than 85 authorised representatives of member schools attended to the Annual General Meeting.

The exhibition has always formed an integral part of our conference and, once again, together with UKTI, we presented our “Education Village”, where we welcomed those companies which have staunchly supported us over the years and also the new companies which may be joining us for the first time. As ever, the annual conference provided ample opportunity for networking and social events including the gala dinner, a tour to visit La Marjal Natural Park, buffet lunches and coffee breaks in the exhibition area, cocktails and the presentation of awards ceremony.

Finally, training on current educational topics was provided for 240 delegates through workshops, key note speeches and breakout sessions.

The venue chosen for this event was the 5* Hotel Meliá Villaitana. Located 20 minutes from Alicante, Meliá Villaitana was designed to simulate a Mediterranean village. It is located between two golf courses designed by Nicklaus Design and has fantastic views of the Gran Bahía on the Costa Blanca. Its 25 individual buildings and unique architectural style reproduce the region’s picturesque squares and historical streets.
